The X Plenary Council of the Congregation was held in Linda a Pastora, Lisbon, from 15 to 29 August 2023, under the theme “Renew to Bear Fruit.” In a deeply spiritual setting, guided by God’s grace, and inspired by the legacy of the Founders, the Plenary members came together in a spirit of unity, simplicity, and transparency. Their primary focus was to explore and discuss strategies for preserving the Charism in a world that is constantly changing.
The theme of the X Plenary Council, “Renew to Bear Fruit,” was a reminder of the necessity of shedding old ways, just as a tree sheds its old leaves to make room for new growth. It was emphasized through the decisions taken, that the Congregation needs to let go of outdated practices, stagnant attitudes, and self-imposed limitations that hinder our dedication to Christ and our commitment to humanity.
The quote from Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” served as a profound source of comfort. It gave console that there is a divine purpose behind the twists and turns of life and that a brighter future is part of God’s plan for the Franciscan Hospitaller Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.
