The Marian month of may

In the month of May, a time dedicated to honouring the Holy Mother of God, an event of great significance unfolded on May 6, 2023, at Radio Cultura FM107.5 in Aracaju, Sergipe (SE), Brazil. Sister Maria das Neves Fernandes de Sousa, representing the Province of Santa Cruz, was invited to lead the commencement of this Marian month. This date held a special significance as it coincided with the month of May, which not only marked the anniversary of the Foundation of the Congregation but also the Beatification of Mother Clara.

At the beginning of the program, Sister Maria das Neves offered a succinct introduction to the Congregation and the Franciscan Hospitaller Charism. She eloquently conveyed how the Founders of the Congregation exemplified the qualities of God’s tenderness and mercy, particularly in their unwavering commitment to serving society’s most vulnerable and marginalized individuals.

Sister Maria das Neves proceeded to engage the listeners in an interactive moment, guiding them through a brief prayer inspired by the book “Our Lady of Silence” by Fr. Ignacio Larrañaga, OFMCap.

As the segment drew to a close, Sister Maria das Neves warmly invited all the listeners to take time for reflection on the virtuous journey of Mary of Nazareth, the Mother of Jesus. She encouraged contemplation of Mary’s embodiment of qualities such as humility, faith, hope, fortitude, charity, trust, and silence. The segment culminated with a closing prayer and the serenading of Our Lady through a melodious song.
